The DNA microarrays biological analysis is a technique used to determine the genetic profile of a tissue. The comparison between healthy versus unhealty tissues or before&after treatment tissues are of relevant interest for the analysis of several patologies, in particular within the cancer cure research. Several architectures allows the elaboration of complex computational algorithm, usually through hardware solution or hardware&software codesigns. In this contest, FPGA (Fully Programmable Gate Array) platforms are a good fit as they brings a dramatic performance improvement due to the capacity of parallelization and partioning of the elaborations. Scope of the book is the study and the implementation of techniques to analyze DNA microarrays through FPGA architectures. The first part of the book describes the pre-existing algorithms, evaluating the performances on a database of DNA microarrays database. The second part is oriented to the development of new techniques based on FPGA platforms.
