The Handbook is an overview of the Korean Language. In a relatively few pages, this book comprehensively introduces the language, its grammar, and its structure, in clear, engaging prose.
However, it is much more. As a handbook, it is designed to be referred to as needed by students and users of the language. It contains a convenient, compact, carefully edited and organized collection of data, including over 50 tables and lists, and an index. Numerous examples are also provided. This book focuses on the most contemporary, useful, and frequently encountered grammar points. Much of the older, rarer, and/or highly formal 'legacy' grammar material that tends to haunt many Korean books has been carefully excluded. If it isn't in the Handbook, you will rarely, if ever, need to worry about it. Further aiding the user, notes about frequency and general usefulness are included. The Handbook is the result of over five years' research, study, and writing by the author. Large amounts of accurate - and current - information was gathered, assembled, and organized from nearly countless sources. Some of this data is very hard to find in any reference source (in English, anyways) and this book is much more accessible than those written by native Korean authors, linguists, academics, and the like. Naturally, explaining a foreign language requires some grammar terminology. However, this has been minimized and all terms used are clearly explained in simple language, and also defined in a convenient glossary at the beginning of the book. This is the only book of its kind. In addition to being a self-contained educational resource, the Handbook would nicely complement classroom study as well as the various textbooks on the market. Lastly, this might be a useful tool for Korean natives studying English.
