This collection of stories is divided into two sections: In Exile and Losses. The first section contains stories of the Old Country, often told through the reminiscences of immigrants. Streets of Gold reveals the first impressions of a Hungarian family as they view the new world from the window of an airplane. Their expectations set them up for disappointments and misunderstandings as new immigrants. All Saints takes the reader back to an earlier era in Hungary when class differences and life styles divided society and assigned their roles to each segment. The Color of Sunday is a woman's reminiscences of her childhood in Hungary, painted with the vivid colors of a child's imagination. The second section, Losses, visits the many kinds of loss that we are prone to. In Mr. O'Leary the title character loses his former life and several aspects of his character. Nobody's Fault explores the loss of a child and the expectations placed upon the parents. In News of Your Death a woman of middle age mourns an old lover when his death stirs up old memories. Fate gives and takes away and our lives are always in the balance.
