We will begin our study of the angel Gabriel with a brief look at the history of his "kind." I am using the term "history" very specifically here- it is not history in the sense of any angel having an earthly, or even heavenly, lineage. Angels are neither born nor reproduced as humans are. They are all created beings. They were created by Christ prior to the existence of Earth (Ps. 148:2-5, Col. 1:16). They do have a seed, as evidenced by the fact that they are able to produce offspring (Gen. 6:1-4) however, there are no female angels ever recorded in Scripture. Thus, they are unable to reproduce themselves, as is the capability of all earthly beings. Why God would give His holy angels a seed without providing a place to sow that seed is for His eyes, ears, and understanding only at this present time. We have neither the time nor the space to speculate about anything not spelled out in God's Word. So, we will conclude that, because there are no female angelic creatures, angels have no natural offspring. Yet, angels do have a rich history that is wrought with victories as well as mistakes, not unlike most living organisms created by God with free wills. Exploring these angelic events of the past will give us a greater understanding of Gabriel's role in God's eternal will. Let us first look at the types of angels that were created by God and the era in which they reigned in the Earth.
