This book gives insight into how the educational system and classroom experience fail to meet the needs of these marginalized young women, and offers curricular designs to address the educational needs of dropouts and potential dropouts. The effects of the non-school curriculum on these girls academic experience are also explored."

The Author: Cynthia Cole Robinson is an Assistant Professor of Education in the Secondary Education Department at National-Louis University. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and her M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Chicago. Her areas of interest include social justice, urban education, womanism, race, class, and gender studies, and culturally relevant pedagogy.
