This study explores the shifting representations of the character of the zombie within fiction. I intend to show that they are no longer a tool of terror and find out the possible reasons for this alteration. The main focus of this thesis is the shift from modern to post-modern zombies in works of fiction. There are examples analyzed from the fields of film, video games and literature in order to illustrate the development which led to the zombies' current status. I will refer to this change as "cutefication," and explore the methods employed within this process.
