From Cattaro to Elba: Two Historical Accounts of the Napoleonic Wars presents a pair of newly-translated literary works. Professor Velimirovitch delivered his inaugural dissertation at the University of Bern in 1910. The subject matter concerns intrigue, combat and confusion during the course of the Napoleonic Wars in the Dalmatia region of the Balkans in the early 1800s. The unprecedented military defeat of the French by indigenous troops accompanied the participation of no fewer than 10 armies principally contesting two cities, Ragusa and Cattaro, separated by less than 100 km. This classic European military and political analysis has been translated into English for the first time. Readers will likely discover that many of the sources and insights provided by Professor Velimirovitch pertain directly to more recent ramifications of 'Balkanization'. Extensive historical annotation has also been included by the translator. The second account is provided by a Prussian diplomat entrusted with the task of accompanying Napoleon to Elba. This extremely intimate portrayal offers a rare glimpse of the Emperor and his thoughts prior to his short-lived return to leadership in 1815.
