As we all might have heard by now, by Western Civilization's standard, Haiti is "the poorest nation in this hemisphere." Adding the Duvalier regime to the equation, Haitian themselves have caused their disenfranchisement. By the year 1987, every single Haitian was either hopeful, or convinced that change was on the way. Change There was change: the country has been unstable by the culture politics that wants "you to get out so I can get in." Almost two decades later, Haiti had remained the focus of the world. In March 2004, under the influence of France and the United States, the United Nations Stabilization Mission (MINUSTHA) sat foot in Haiti in order to "reestablished" peace and cohesion. Contrary to the International community expectation, violence has worsened as a result of the ousted President Jean Bertrand Aristide on February 29, the same year. Living under harsh condition, many Haitians hoped for a speedy political relief. It is as if, as many have said, the country has been cursed. Just about two years later, the "Land of Freedom" has plunged into the deepest anarchy one could have ever imagined. It has been a complete confusion, and a never-seen deterioration of all aspects of Haitian society.
