This book is a collection of articles dealing with various aspects of postcolonial and migrant literatures. In particular, the texts focus on the topic of food and its importance in these literatures and the communities they stem from. The aim is to investigate the relationship between food and identity in postcolonial contexts, focussing in particular on the way food has often become an effective ally in the struggle for recognition of former colonised countries around the world. In their essays, the authors show that what men eat reflects the history of a people, the stages of its development, the influences it has undergone and the memories it has retained. The approaches to the selected literary texts are multiple and bring together different methodologies. The subject matter is analysed from cultural, anthropological and linguistic perspectives, in an attempt to assess whether the strategies adopted by various nations during their colonial and postcolonial experience might actually share a common core.
Ce volume est un melange de textes qui interpellent differents aspects de ce que la critique a convenu d appeler les - Litteratures postcoloniales et migrantes -. Les textes s interrogent, en particulier, sur l importance que la - nourriture - a toujours revetue au sein de ces litteratures et des communautes dont elles sont l expression. Il s agit d enqueter sur la relation entre nourriture et identite dans le contexte postcolonial et de porter une attention toute particuliere aux processus a travers lesquels la nourriture est tres souvent devenue une alliee dans la lutte pour la reconnaissance de tous les anciens pays colonises a travers le monde. Dans leurs essais, les auteurs montrent que les nourritures sont le miroir de l histoire d un peuple, des etapes de son developpement, des influences qu il a subies et de la memoire qu il a conservee. Les approches aux textes litteraires choisis sont multiples et elles s appuient sur differentes methodologies. La thematique en question est analysee d un point de vue culturel, anthropologique et linguistique, pour essayer, si possible, d identifier un denominateur commun aux strategies adoptees par les differentes nations au cours de leur experience coloniale et postcoloniale."

O autorze

Michela Canepari obtained a PhD in English Literature from Sussex University. She now teaches English Language and Translation at the University of Parma (Italy). She has combined teaching with translating and writing, publishing on both postcolonial authors as well as on topical issues of a linguistic and theoretical nature. Her major research interests cover postcolonial, cultural, interlinguistic and intersemiotic translation, critical discourse analysis and sociolinguistics.
Alba Pessini teaches French Literature and Language at the University of Parma. She obtained her PhD in Comparative Literature at the University Sorbonne Paris IV and the University Alma Mater Studii of Bologna. Her research mainly focuses on contemporary French and Francophone literature, in particular the works written in French by authors from the Caribbean (the Antilles, Haiti, Guiana). She wrote her thesis on the Haitian writers from the diaspora, investigating issues such as exile, lmigration and relocation.
Michela Canepari a obtenu son Doctorat en littérature anglaise à la Sussex University. Elle enseigne actuellement la langue et la traduction anglaises à l'Université de Parme (Italie). Elle s'occupe à la fois de l'enseignement de la traduction et de la production écrite ; ses publications concernent les auteurs postcoloniaux ainsi que les thématiques liées à la linguistique et à sa théorie. Ses recherches portent sur la traduction postcoloniale et culturelle, interlinguistique et intersémiotique, sur l'analyse critique du discours et sur la sociolinguistique.
Alba Pessini enseigne la langue et la littérature françaises à l'Université de Parme (Italie). Elle a obtenu son Doctorat en littérature comparée à l'Université Sorbonne Paris IV en cotutelle avec l'Université Alma Mater Studii de Bologna. Ses études concernent la littérature contemporaine française et francophone, en particulier les oeuvres écrites en français par des auteurs caribéens de langue française (Antilles, Haïti, Guyane). Elle s'est occupée dans sa thèse des écrivains de la diaspora haïtienne en s'intéressant à des thématiques comme l'exil, la migration et le retour au pays natal.
