Though these characters are imaginary the places are very real. Much of the story is set around the many historical landmarks in Christchurch, England. A place where the past lives alongside the present and the mythical becomes real.In many ways the story reflects how the division between fantasy and reality is narrowing, particularly through technological advances. Just look at the iPhone, 30 years ago such a device would have been pure fantasy, more Start Trek than reality.
