This paper first describes the changed starting situation for companies and explains the reasons for the change in a dynamic environment. The terms agility and flexibility are defined and distinguished from one another. Flexibility in a system is explained as a basis. The importance of flexible business processes is then described. Furthermore, it is shown how business processes can be made more flexible and which existing management concepts exist for this purpose. Finally, modern information technology for supporting flexible business processes is discussed.
