Carbon steel is also called plain-carbon steel, where the main interstitial alloying constituent is carbon. As the carbon content rises, steel has the ability to become harder and stronger through heat treating. Though carbon steels are widely used in structural fabrication, they are highly susceptible to corrosion. Many attempts have been made to overcome the corrosion problems of carbon steel. These include the control of impurities, alloying, rapid solidification and application of suitable protective coatings. Among these techniques, the protection through proper surface modification seems to be one of the most effective methods for corrosion prevention of carbon steel. In the present work, to investigate the corrosion behavior of flame sprayed aluminium and copper coated carbon steel using the immersion corrosion test, salt spray test and pitting corrosion test in NaCl solution and also compare the corrosion behavior of base metal and coated metal from the immersion corrosion test, salt spray test and pitting corrosion test.
