Economic condition and education of an individual influence his/her representation in politics more than his/her caste. The research disproves the traditional perspectives in Nepal that an individual's caste is a primary factor for his/her representation in politics. The research conclusion was drawn after a field-based research conducted among randomly-selected respondents in Shivgunj Village Development Committee (now reconstituted as Shivasatakshi municipality) in one of the Eastern districts in Nepal.

Mr. Ghanashyam Ojha is a PhD scholar under the Department of Management at Tribhuwan University in Nepal. Former journalist, Mr. Ojha has worked for Nepal's leading newspapers and extensively covered the armed insurgency between 1996-2006. He also worked as a Political Analyst for The Carter Center for around five years.
