Butiá, belonging to the palm family, is a genus that contains about eight species found in South America, seven of which occur in Brazilian territory. Butiá fruits are perishable, deteriorating in a few days, which makes it difficult to market them fresh over long distances. For this reason, some regions of Brazil have never heard of the butiá plant. Its seeds, or almonds, are sources of lipids, presenting a high-energy alternative with potential for oil production. Thus, the main objective of this study was to analyse the composition of the oil extracted from butiá seeds (Butia eriosphata), aiming to add value and create an alternative for the technological use of this palm tree.
