In this research, the focus of entrepreneurial behaviours was at their start-up stage, these types of entrepreneurs are distinctively known as "Start-up entrepreneur". In recent research pertaining to entrepreneurship, there are gaps in the knowledge regarding the relationship between entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly between the motivations of start-up entrepreneurs and technological innovation. Based on a sample of 152 Chinese start-up entrepreneurs, this study adopted a post-positivist approach and through an exploration of appropriate ontological, epistemological and methodological philosophies, it sought to discover and develop a model linking motivations of start-up entrepreneurs and two types of innovation behaviours. Following an extensive literature review utilising qualitative methods, a research model was developed around eight hypotheses and a questionnaire with 26 items was distributed for data collection. Results from this study would allow the would-be entrepreneur to be better-informed on what it will take to increase the likelihood of entrepreneurial success as ways of social and economic development.
