In this book, conceptions of, and perspectives on, poverty and poor people are presented with consequences for the field of measurement and evaluation. It is in this context that one analyses the emergence, development and relevance of social intervention directed at the problem of poverty and at the population suffering from it. Some policies and measures of supranational bodies are approached, with the aim of relating the dimension of the problem with the nature of the public strategies designed to combat poverty.
Neste livro apresentam-se e debatem-se, em primeiro lugar, concepcoes e perspectivas sobre a pobreza e pessoas em situacao de pobreza e empobrecimento, com consequencias para o campo da sua medicao e avaliacao. E neste contexto que se analisa a emergencia, desenvolvimento e actualidade das intervencoes sociais dirigidas para o problema da pobreza e populacao por ela atingida. Algumas politicas e medidas da iniciativa de entidades supranacionais sao tambem abordadas, visando-se e sugerindo-se relacionar a dimensao do problema com a natureza das estrategias politicas para o seu enfrentamento."

The Authors: Fernanda Rodrigues has a Ph.D. in Social Work and is Assessor of the Oporto District Centre for Social Security. She is Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at the Portuguese Catholic University.
Ticu Constantin has a Ph.D. in Social Psychology and is Lecturer in the Department of Psychology of the «Al. I. Cuza» University of Iasi, Romania.
Rudy Van den Hoven has a Ph.D. in Community Development and is Assistant Professor of the Open University of Portugal.
Maria Helena Nunes has a Ph.D. in Social Work and is Assessor of the Oporto District Centre for Social Security.
