66 Post-surgical spinal infectionProf. Şenköylü was born in Mardin and grown up in Ankara, Turkey. After graduating from Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in 1994, his residency was fulfilled in orthopaedics and traumatology in the same university. He worked with Professor Erhan Piskin for his thesis on cartilage tissue engineering. After finalizing his clinical spine surgery fellowship under the guidance of Professors Keith Luk and Kenneth Cheung in Hong Kong University, he was assigned to an assistant professor position in Gazi University Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2005. Later on, he completed short-term fellowships on complex spine deformities in Oslo with Professor Roger Sorensen, and in Barcelona with Professors Carlos Villaneuva, Ferran Pellice, Juan Bago. In 2007, the title of associate professor of orthopaedics and traumatology was conferred upon at Gazi University.
In 2009, Prof. Şenköylü was granted Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association “Soichi Kokubun Spine Fellowship” and visited Tohoku University and affiliated hospitals in Japan. Four years later, he was assigned to a full professor position and worked as a spine surgery consultant in Liv Hospital-Istanbul and in Medicana International Hospital-Ankara. Now, as a professor of orthopaedics and traumatology and head of the spine team, he continues his career at Gazi University. His main clinical and research interest is spine surgery including complex deformities, trauma, tumors, and also degenerative conditions. He is very active in international organizations such as Scoliosis Research Society, Eurospine, AOSpine, and serving as committee chair, task force member, regional educational trainer, course chair, and also faculty for these organizations. One of the important achievements is receiving the Educator of the Year 2016 award from AOSpine based on his active support of spine surgery education. Prof. Şenköylü owns a patent and is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters as well as an associate editor of two international journals which are cited in Pubmed and SCI.Prof. Canavese was born in Torino, Italy. He moved to Montpellier, France, to complete his training under the guidance of Professor Alain Diméglio. He then worked at the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland with Professor André Kaelin and completed a PhD in Animal Pathology at the Universities of Bologna and Udine, Italy where he studied thoracic and lung growth and effects of spinal arthrodesis on neural elements.
Prof. Canavese has been appointed Professor of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Auvergne, Clermont Ferrand, France in 2012, and is the former Head of the Pediatric Surgery Department at University Hospital of Clermont Ferrand, France (2010-2020). Since September 1, 2020 Professor Canavese works at the Lille University Centre – Jeanne de Flandre Hospital at the Department of Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery and joined the Faculty of Medicine at Lille University, France. His clinical and research interests are mainly focused on spine (spinal growth, neuromuscular scoliosis, and early onset scoliosis), cerebral palsy, congenital clubfoot and pediatric traumatology. He is the current Chair of the Educational Committee of the European Pediatric Orthopedic Society (EPOS; 2018-2022), and he is also member of other scientific societies including POSNA, SOFCOT, SOFOP. He is author of more than 180 peer reviewed articles, more than 60 book chapters and authors/editor of 8 books so far.
