The challenge proposed in this thesis is to understand what happens to women involved in situations of domestic violence after they file a complaint at the Specialized Police Stations for Women (DEAM-RJ). This study investigated the developments related to the woman's attitude and her efforts to seek help to escape the situation she was in, focusing on the narrative she herself elaborated. To this end, the following questions were raised: Is the decision to report conscious? What triggers a woman's search for a police station? How is this woman received at the police station by professionals and technicians? What referrals do these professionals make based on the woman's complaint? Is there a referral network in the municipality? After the complaint, what is the marital situation of the woman who filed the complaint? What changes occur in family relationships after the complaint? Is there an effective transformation resulting from the act of filing a complaint? This study presents the multiple dimensions of this situation and seeks to understand its meanings. The proposal of the study focused on the interior of the state of Rio de Janeiro, more precisely in the south-central region.
