Cataracts are the leading cause of reversible blindness in the world. This is a prospective study of 200 cases of cataract, collected during one month between October and December 2017, in the ophthalmology department of the Regional Hospital Center Souss Massa in Morocco. The present series which is the first in the region, highlighted that the average age was 61.02 years with a female predominance (66%), The majority of patients (53%) came from urban areas of the Souss Massa region. The study shows the predominance of senile cataract (62%) followed by diabetic cataract (20%), traumatic cataract (15%) and congenital cataract in (3%) of cases. The most frequent form was unilateral (73%). Diabetes (37%), hypertension (20%), and heart disease (10.5%) were the three most frequent associated comorbidities. Local anesthesia was used in 94% of patients. Manual extra capsular extraction was performed in all cases. Cataract remains a widespread and multifactorial ocular pathology.
