Several years ago, I watched a program about creativity on PBS TV. It talked about trying to teach creativity to children or adults. Thinking about what the program was saying I asked myself, "Can people be taught creativity? Then another question came to mind, "Isn't creativity part of our natural being?" I maintain all people are born innately creative. If that is so, what comes between a person's natural creative self and its expression in their lives? With this principle in mind--that we are all naturally creative--I observed my students and artist friends and started to write down my observations and thoughts which became the basis and inspiration for the writing of my book, "Enhance Your Creativity and Break Artist's Block." When students come to me and say "I am not creative," or "I have no imagination," I know it is not so. It is that they do not know how to turn on their creative juices. This gives me confidence to work with them and see what is holding them back. It allows me to help them through the creative block. This book, "Enhance Your Creativity and Break Artist's Block," has 139 full-color illustrations in which I show how I work with students to encourage their creative style. I reveal to them, and to you, those thoughts that hold a person back. You will recognize how you sometimes sabotage your own creativity. Working with this book will allow you to enjoy exploration and innovation and find your own painting style whether working with a teacher or working on your own. I believe that creativity is there and does not need to be taught. It is important that, as parents and teachers, we must be careful not to thwart other's creativity. In any field of endeavor, art, music, writing, business or science, you must not allow yourself the easy negativity that impedes your progress, but follow the more challenging opportunities of exploration which are really more fun.
