Lester W. Schmerr Jr. holds a Ph.D. in Mechanics from Illinois Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T. He is Professor Emeritus, Iowa State University, where he taught and conducted research for four decades.
