Energy drinks (EB) are considered to be non-alcoholic beverages that contain mainly sugars, acidulants and caffeine or a combination of other ingredients such as taurine, guarana and ginseng or other vegetable extracts. The consumption of these beverages has increased significantly in Mexico among young adults in order to reduce sleep time, boost their energy and increase academic and sports performance. This includes young university students, who are unaware of the adverse side effects that these beverages may have due to their consumption. Some BE may contain excess sugars and sodium. The risk comes when these beverages are consumed in excess. A relationship was found between the consumption of energy drinks and risk behaviors, mainly alcohol consumption in men and risky sexual behaviors in women.
