The primary goal of an adhoc network routing protocol is to meet the challenges of the dynamically changing topology. Therefore, it is very much essential to make an efficient route between any two nodes with minimum routing overhead and bandwidth consumption. These networks consist of constantly moving nodes running on limited batteries. This research focused on increasing its network lifetime. Also, the proposed technique is presented which is a modification to existing AODV-CS technique. In this research work, the MANET characteristics and challenges are highlighted. Also, the previously mentioned categories of routing protocols, proactive and reactive, are explored. Moreover, a comparison is conducted between three protocols: namely, DSDV, DSR, and AODV in terms of various features and their performance. Finally, a critical analysis is performed. In terms of optimization, the Cuckoo Search Algorithm and Firefly Optimization Technique are used.
