Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is anoninvasive, noncontact imaging modality that usescoherent gating to obtain high-resolutioncross-sectional images of tissue microstructure. This book focuses on endoscopic OCT diagnosis. Because of high-resolution ability of OCT technology, its endoscopic diagnosis aims to perform opticalbiopsy without damaging the tissue, detect earlystage diseases and monitor the healing effect aftersurgery. The organs such as human vessel, vocalcord, gastrointestinal track and airway areinvestigated. In order to access these organs, fourOCT endoscopes are designed to deliver infrared lightto the region of interest. Additionally, a second harmonic spectrometer basedOCT is designed to increase OCT image contrast. Withthe contrast enhancement from second harmonicgeneration, the structure of highly organized tissue, like collagen, is obtained. This information iscomplementary to the standard OCT. Second harmonicOCT has the potential to provide molecular contrastfor in vivo clinical application.
