The people of whom the biblical texts speak often feel love or hate; they articulate their sadness, lamentation or joy; they burn with anger or jealousy; they show fear or pity. It regularly becomes clear that these representations of emotions are of central importance for the theological intention of the texts. 1 Samuel describes the love between David and Jonathan. The book of anniversaries pays special attention to the happiness of the parents. The Gospel of Mark tells of the fear of those around Jesus. In Matthew, Jesus threatens his audience with "wailing and gnashing of teeth." And the book of Acts underscores the unanimity that reigns in early Christianity. With this finding, biblical studies are faced with the task of dealing with the mentioned aspects of the texts exegetically. The contributions in this volume therefore show ways of analyzing the meaning of emotions in biblical texts.

David Bindrim, PhD. Biblical Studies, ist Mitglied beim Hebraistenverband e.V. und seit 2015 beim Abraham Berliner Center zur Erforschung der Text- und Auslegungstradition der Hebräischen Bibel e.V. (ABC). Prof. Dr. Nils Neumann hat Theologie und Religionspädagogik in Kassel und Freiburg i.Br. studiert. In Kassel hat er 2006 im Fach Neues Testament promoviert und sich 2013 habilitiert. Nach Vertretungen in München, Bern und Wuppertal wurde er 2017 zum Professor für Biblische Theologie an die Leibniz Universität Hannover berufen. Dort lehrt er am Institut für Theologie und schreibt derzeit an einem Buch zum Motiv der Furcht im Markusevangelium. Er ist Mitglied der Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, der Society of Bilical Literature und der European Association of Biblical Studies. Anna-Lena Senk ist Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin im Fach Biblische Theologie. Sie arbeitet an einer Dissertation zur Charakterisierung zentraler Figuren im lukanischen Doppelwerk und ist Mitglied in der Arbeitsgemeinschaft neutestamentlicher Assistentinnen und Assistenten. Jan Dietrich ist Professor für Literatur- und Religionsgeschichte des Alten Testaments an der Evangelisch-Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Bonn. Dr. Jörg Frey ist Professor für Neutestamentliche Wissenschaft mit Schwerpunkten Antikes Judentum und Hermeneutik an der Universität Zürich und Research Associate der University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, Südafrika. Dr. theol. Friedhelm Hartenstein ist Professor für Altes Testament und Altorientalische Religionsgeschichte an der Universität München.
