Life evolved in water, and water remains the essential medium in which various biochemical process takes place. With the occurrence of water deficits several physiological processes associated with growth are affected. The severe water deficits may lead to the death of the plant. In the present study effects of varying water regimes (watered daily, on alternate days, at 3 days interval, at 5 days interval and at 10 days interval) on the growth of Mustard (Brassica campestris cv Krishna Kranti) have been worked out. Results indicated that the impact of drought increased with the period of drought and it altered the normal size of stem, leaf number, their shape as well as total leaf area. The number of flowers and floral buds also decrease significantly in drought affected plant. The leaf plasticity appears to be adoptive response of the plant to conserve water.
