The general objective of this paper is to compare the concepts of researchers Mario Kaplún and Ismar Soares regarding Educommunication. The former was the Argentine scholar who coined the neologism still used today and focused mainly on conceptualising Educommunication, while the latter is the Brazilian responsible for the Communication and Education Centre at the University of São Paulo (NCE-USP) since 2011, whose efforts were not restricted to theorisation, as he played a relevant role in the application of Educommunication in Brazil. The specific objectives developed provided a theoretical basis for the dialogue proposed between the two authors: to address fragments of the history of education in Brazil selected for their historical, political and social significance; to introduce the thoughts of some precursors of the ideas of rapprochement between the fields of education and communication; to work on the definition of the concept of Educommunication; breaking down the definition for a better understanding of the topic discussed and, finally, establishing a distinction between pedagogical process and tool.
