Slums were established during the 1850s and 1890s. According to the 2011 Census, 5.41% of India's population lives in slums. Because to increased urbanization, the total slum population now stands at 65,494,604. In slum areas, the male population is 33,968,203, while the female population is 31,526,401. Rapid urbanization convinced the formerly agitated, resulting in the expansion of city infrastructure and the formation of slum areas. The majority of slum dwellers are migrants. Slums are characterized by overcrowded living conditions, unsanitary surroundings, and a lack of basic amenities such as garbage and sewage disposal (latrine) facilities, lack of good water facilities, low-quality housing construction, water and lack of ventilation, road and electricity facilities, congestion, and small house sizes. The current study focuses on many elements of slum development in Tirupattur district.
