It was thus a great personal thrill to play through Edward Higginbottom's wonderful arrangement of this piece, so sensitively presented for SATB, including baritone and soprano solos. As the publicity notes state, this is 'a highly accessible and mellifulous arrangement, the delicate scoring, smooth vocal lines and well-judged splashes of harmonic colour allowing the simple beauty of the melody to be heard throughout'. There are, indeed, a very appealing variety of
textures within this arrangement . . . There is no doubt that, in this work, Higginbottom has brought new life to an already much-loved melody. It is a relatively straightforward piece to perform, not making any real technical demands and I am sure it will be a winner from an audience point of view.
