Enno Schmidt obtained his medical degree at the University of Würzburg (Germany). He did his PhD in the Department of Biotechnology before doing residency at the Department of Dermatology at the University of Würzburg. After board exams in dermatology (in 2005) and allergology (in 2007) and his habilitation (in 2006), in 2008 he moved to the Department of Dermatology at the University of Lübeck (Germany) as senior clinical consultant. He was acting head of the Comprehensive Center for Inflammation Medicine (2010-2013) and in 2014 became full professor at the University of Lübeck and joined the board of directors at the Lübeck Institute for Experimental Dermatology (LIED). Since 2016 he is Chair of Task Force Autoimmune Blistering Diseases of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and in 2017, he passed his board exam in dermatopathology. He is currently heading the routine autoimmune laboratory and the autoimmune outpatient clinic of the Department of Dermatology, Lübeck.
His main research interests are in autoimmune bullous diseases focusing on translational aspects including diagnostics, pre-clinical animal models, and clinical studies.
