Developing Attachments for Four-Wheel Riding Type Rice Transplanter

Mechanised rice transplanting is getting popular in Kerala state of India due to scarcity and high cost of labour. Hiring of Four-wheel riding type transplanters can ensure speedy operation and are preferred by farmers. But these machines are to be transported to different sites in other vehicles resulting in additional cost. Application of different liquid formulations in the mat nursery before planting is advantageous for plant growth promotion and protection. Hence, suitable attachments were developed to reduce the cost of transportation and apply liquid formulations on mat nursery loaded in the seedling tray of the machine. The developed transport wheel system could ride the machine at a maximum speed of 9.88 km/h at transport mode. An applicator attachment suitable for all makes of 6-row four-wheel riding type rice transplanters was also developed and successfully field tested for liquid formulation of pseudomonas fluorescence and a micro-nutrient mixture. Application of pseudomonas enhanced growth and there was no incidence of fungal diseases, while micronutrient mixture increased plant height, number of productive tillers per unit area, grains per panicle and yield.
