The aim of this book is to implement, build and operate a Power Electronics circuit called the Mc Murray-Bedford single-phase inverter, which is a DC / AC converter that provides an alternating voltage source to supply AC motors from one DC voltage source. Power thyristors in the power circuit are used to accomplish it. These thyristors function as electronic switches to adjust a DC voltage source and transform it into an AC voltage signal. The intention to do it is to control the speed of the AC motors, which is achieved by varying the frequency of the signal that is obtained at the output of the circuit. The inverter in question uses two main thyristors, which receive alternating signals in the form of bursts of pulses. Thus, from time to time the motor will be receiving at its terminals a positive voltage, and then negative in the form of an alternating square wave signal. The frequency with which it happens will depend solely and exclusively on the trigger frequency that is generated in the pulse emitting circuit of the thyristors, ie it can be controlled at will. In the later chapters, we will explain how the single-phase inverter Mc Murray-Bedord was designed and built.
