This paper examines how psychopaths are portrayed in films in terms of their characteristics as artefacts. An analytical model developed by Jens Eder serves as the basis for this examination. First, an attempt is made to provide the reader with a definition of the psychological thriller genre and to explain terms such as "suspense" in more detail. Subsequently, the character of the psychopath is examined in terms of his personality traits, subdivided into various types and dimensions, and his relevance as a film character is considered. The majority of the written presentation focuses on a search for clues as to how the character of the psychopath can be portrayed in cinematic instances and conveyed to the viewer in a credible manner. This is achieved through a scene-by-scene analysis of several selected real films.
