Dengue is an acute viral infection with potential fatal complications. In India more number of dengue cases are reported. This text contain history of Dengue and clinically recognized dengue epidemics in different countries were discussed. There is no specific treatment for dengue other than supportive measures and judicious fluid therapy. However various methods of vector control, i.e., physical, chemical, and biological have been used to control the transmission of disease were explained. Laboratory diagnosis methods for confirming dengue virus infection may involve detection of the virus, viral nucleic acid, antigens or antibodies, or a combination of these techniques. Direct and indirect method for identification of dengue was demonstrated in this context. National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme were established and it was monitoring the dengue cases and its prevalence in India. Recent reports reveal that Aedes mosquitoes become highly sensitive to chemical which are used to control its breeding. Hence it was concluded that alternative methods should be established in India to reduce vector larval population.
