Another case for ex-SAS man Major Vince Hamilton. After the successful conclusion of his recent case, where he was chasing stolen luxury yachts and cars around Europe. He decides to take his wife on a holiday to visit his brother in Melbourne, Australia. The purpose of the holiday is to rebuild their marriage as his wife is convinced that if Vince continues in his role as a Private Investigator he will be killed. She wants him to retire gracefully and become a better father to his children. Vince doesn't agree with her demands but is maintaining a low profile. He meets one of his former clients at the Australian Grand Prix, who he invites to a barbeque that is being held at one of his brother's friend's houses. The friend of his brother is a pilot. The day after the barbeque the pilot plus his whole family is abducted and vanishes. Vince feels guilty because it looks like the person behind the abduction is his former client. He offers to help find the family and rescue them despite the protestations of his wife. He had, of course, promised her that he would never get involved in another investigation. He now is up against two enemies, his wife, who wants him to cease being a PI and the people who have abducted the family. It turns out that the pilot has been taken to fly a plane carrying illegal drugs for the syndicate. The investigation takes Vince from Melbourne to Northern Territory, one of Australia's provinces and from there he follows the trail to Indonesia. He is not on his own as his brother and some other friends he has met along the way join the search. The Australian police also get involved. Follow Vince as he tries to crack this case and face the dangers of confronting an International Drugs Syndicate. There is non-stop action. If they don't solve the case rapidly, the pilot will be killed. Vince also has to keep his wife on his side. He feels that there is a limit to her patience, but he can't give up the search for the pilot. What would you do in the same position; obey your wife or continue searching for the pilot? Interview with the Author Q - Why have you written the Vince Hamilton series? A - When I was growing up I loved reading books written by Hammond Innes, Neville Shute, Alistair Maclean, etc. as they were good stories but without the sex and violence. I have tried to replicate this style in my books so as the reader can feel that they are involved in the investigation. Vince Hamilton, the hero, is an ordinary happily married man who has been invalided out of the SAS at the age of forty-two after being injured in Iraq. He becomes a private investigator by accident but turns out to be very successful. You will easily be able to identify with him. Q - This is the third book in the series; do I have to read the other books first? A - There is no need to read the others first as each book stands by itself and is the account of an entirely different case. Q - So why should people read your books? A - The stories are fast and action packed. As you read, you can become the investigator and try and work out what is going on and who is responsible. Have a go at solving the crime before Vince can. The investigation takes you right across Australia and up to Indonesia. There are the dry, arid conditions of the Northern Territory and then the humid tropical conditions in West Timor. Q - Have you published any other books? A - Yes I have a number of other works of fiction. You can find all the details on my website www.patrickslaney.com.
