Pediculosis is the disease transmitted by lice of the body, head or pubic area. Body lice are found in adults in low socio-economic situations. Head lice are found in school-age children. Pubic lice transmit a condition that is considered venereal. Body lice can transmit trench fever, recurrent fever and epidemic exanthematic typhus, which are potentially fatal diseases.Tungosis is caused by the skin penetration of the female Tunga penetrans.We review the epidemiology, risk factors, associated morbidity, clinical manifestations, management and potential prevention and treatment strategies.These diseases are endemic in sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean and are seen in travellers returning from these regions.
