Wireless communication is not only one of the mostvibrant research areas in the telecommunicationfield, but also one of the biggest engineeringsuccesses in the last twenty years. Cooperation andcross-layer design are two emerging techniques forimproving the performance of wireless networks. Inthis book, novel cooperative cross-layer techniquesare proposed in three areas of wireless networks:cooperative beamforming, wireless security andcollision resolution. First, a framework ofcross-layer cooperative beamforming is presented toenable long-distance wireless communications in anenergy and bandwidth efficient fashion. Second, anovel cross-layer cooperative approach to wirelesssecurity is proposed to overcome the limitations oftraditional physical layer security approaches posedby the wireless channel. Finally, a multi-channel andcross-layer extension of a cooperative collisionresolution scheme (named ALLIANCES) is proposed forbroadband wireless networks. The targeted readers ofthis book are researchers and engineers who areinterested in physical and medium access control(MAC) layer issues in wireless communications.

Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA, USA, in 2008. His research
interests are in the areas of digital signal processing and
wireless communications.
