From a socio-economic and ecological point of view, the coastal zone is very important for Morocco. It forms the basis for the main domestic, commercial and industrial activities. Recently, a number of environmental problems have arisen in Morocco's coastal zones as a result of these human activities. As a result, these areas, more than others, require special consideration in terms of sustainable and local development, as in the case of the Moroccan Mediterranean coastline. To investigate the environmental status the Nador lagoon and the Boudinar coastal zone, we used analytical approaches (sedimentological, geochemical and hydrological) coupled a geomatic approach, using environmental quality indicators (enrichment factor, pollutant load index, contamination index). As a result, we were able to map the polluted areas of the Nador lagoon, where sediment pollution is alarmingly high, and to assess the environmental status of the Boudinar marine zone, where water and sediment are not polluted. In addition to this, we carried out an integrated analysis of environmental issues at the two study sites, using the DPSIR (Driving-Pressure-State-Impact-Response) method.
