The three-way conclusion of a parliamentary session on the urgency and necessity of a law on birth control in Burundi is the starting point and motivation for this paper. In the middle of the session, the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Social Affairs and the Minister of Public Health and AIDS Control reacted against a law in force. This work focuses on updating and documenting the current state of family planning policy in Burundi in general and assessing the level of knowledge and practice in family planning.It should be noted that, in a cultural context, "Burundians' behaviors regarding sexuality, marriage and reproduction have been and are still determined by traditional norms and values, in a context of low contraceptive prevalence.
