Prof. Mammen Chandy MD FRACP FRCPA FRCP DSc, an eminent physician and teacher for four decades, is the founder director of Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. He also leads the clinical hematology and hematopoietic cell transplantation Division at the center. After graduating from Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, India, and completing his internal medicine training at the same institution, he underwent specialty training in hematology and hemato-pathology at Westmead Center, Sydney. Prof. Chandy was instrumental in setting up the hematology program at Christian Medical College, Vellore, and spent the major part of his career as its lead where he initiated the first specialty training program in hematology in the subcontinent. Prof. Chandy has been a pioneer in the field of bone marrow transplantation and is credited with establishing one of the first organized bone marrow transplant programs in the Indo-Pacific region. He has trained many generations of hematologists and transplant physicians. Prof. Chandy was also instrumental in initiating the bone marrow transplant program at the Sultan Quboos University in Muscat, Oman. Clinical and basic research in hematology have been his passion with over a hundred research publications in this field to his credit. He has been an advocate for developing inclusive clinical practices to manage economically challenged patients in resource constrained countries. The many awards and honors he has received are testimony to his immense contribution to hematology and bone marrow transplantation. The Royal College of Physicians (London) awarded him with the FRCP in 2010, and the CIBMTR in 2014 recognized his work by awarding him the “Distinguished Service” award. For his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine in the country, the Government of India honored Prof. Chandy with the Dr. BC Roy Award in 2012 and a coveted civilian honor, the Padmashree, in 2019.
Dr. Vivek S. Radhakrishnan MD DM MSc PDF, is a hemato-oncologist and bone marrow transplant physician by training. After completing his medical oncology residency at Madras Medical College, Chennai, Dr. Radhakrishnan underwent clinical postdoctoral specialization in hematological malignancies and bone marrow transplantation at TMC, and additional training in the bone marrow transplantation divisions at Duke University Medical Center, Durham, and MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. With nearly a decade’s experience in this field, he is the principal investigator in several investigator initiated clinical research studies in hematological malignancies and hematopoietic cellular therapies, and a recipient of prestigious research grants and society fellowships. His immediate past positions include the program director of the hematopoietic cell transplantation division and course-director of the accredited clinical residency programs, at TMC. He is the convener of the Immuno-Oncology working group in the institution, and a teacher in the Medical Oncology, Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation training programs.
Dr. Reghu K. Sukumaran MD DCH DM PDF, is a senior consultant in the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata. He completed his pediatric oncology training at the Regional Cancer Center, Trivandrum. He underwent training in pediatric bone marrow transplantation at leading institutes in India and overseas. His areas of interest apart from bone marrow transplantation are immunooncology, bone sarcomas, and Hodgkin Lymphoma in children. He has more than a decade of experience as a pediatric attending physician and trainer in India.
