Dr. Sebastian Farr graduated from the Medical University Vienna and completed his orthopaedic residency at the Millesi Center for Surgery of Peripheral Nerves (H. Millesi), General Hospital Vienna (R. Kotz) and the Orthopaedic Hospital Speising (F. Grill), where he gained his pediatric orthopaedic training. He specialized in the field of hand and upper limb surgery (W. Girsch) and completed several observerships and hospitations at renowned hospitals such as Boston Children´s Hospital (P. Waters, D. Bae). His clinical and scientific focus lies in the treatment of congenital hand and upper limb differences, injuries, and posttraumatic sequelae particularly in children and adolescents. His research activities led him to the publication of around 70 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters. Dr. Farr served as the Chair of the European Pediatric Orthopaedic Society - Upper Limb Study Group (2017-2021), is member of several national and international orthopaedic societies, reviewer for numerous internationally renowned journals, as well as Editorial Board member and Associate Editor for prestigious journals in this field. Dr. Farr has earned several awards and prizes including the highly rated Theodor-Billroth-Prize of the Austrian Medical Chamber and Travelling Fellowships from EPOS and VKO.
This book uniquely provides a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of congenital and acquired deformities of the pediatric shoulder girdle, a field barely covered in existing books. It not only addresses bone deformities, but also examines the most important soft tissue alterations, e.g. muscular torticollis, thoracic outlet syndrome, shoulder dyskinesia, as well as brachial plexus birth injury and syndrome-related shoulder disorders. Following a consistent and treatment-oriented structure for each topic, leading international experts present epidemiology, key points in clinical, radiological diagnosis and treatment options, technical tips and tricks, and pertinent literature outcomes. Filling an existing gap, this book offers a timely and up-to-date resource for pediatric orthopedic fellows and attending surgeons, as well as for general orthopedists, primary care doctors and physiotherapists with an interest in the pediatric upper limb.
