Professor Keki E. Turel graduated from Grant Medical College and J.J Group of Hospitals, one of the oldest in Mumbai and India. He got his P.G degree (Masters in Surgery) in neurosurgery in 1975, FABCNS [Fellow (Diplomate) of the American Board of Clinical Neurological Surgery, USA] in 1991, FAANaOS [Fellow (Diplomate) of the American Academy [Board] of Neurological & Orthopedic Medicine and Surgery, USA] in 1991, and was bestowed with Honorary FRCS (Edinburgh) without examination in 2002. He is former Head (1994-2011) and current Professor Emeritus of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Bombay Hospital (Mumbai, India). He is past President of the Asian Oceanian Skull Base Society (1997-1999), Bombay Neurosciences Association (2007-2008), of which he was the founder in 2002, Madjid Samii Conference of International Neurosurgeons (2007-2009), Academia Eurasiana Neurochirurgica (2009-2011), Neurological Society of India (2011-2012). He remains the President of Skull Base Trust of India, since its inception in 1998. He organized landmark conferences in Mumbai while presiding over those associations and was Chairman and Organizer of the first ever ‘International Conference on Complications in Neurosurgery’ (March 3-5, 2017).
Dr. Hrishikesh Sarkar completed residency from one of the premier neurosurgical institute in Asia - Christian Medical College and Hospital (Vellore, India). He had fellowship in minimally invasive and endoscopic neurosurgery in Hirslanden Klinik (Zurich, Switzerland) and a brief training in neuromodulation in Karolinska University (Stockholm, Sweden). He has publications in leading indexed, peer reviewed, national/international neurosurgery journals and contributed to CME textbooks of Neurological Society of India. He is currently working as Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai, India. He was Co-Organizer of the first ever ‘International Conference on Complications in Neurosurgery’ (March 3-5, 2017).
This book illustrates and discusses key points related to intra- and postoperative complications of brain, spine and peripheral nerve surgery, and covers the majority of neurosurgical subspecialties, including skull base surgery, brain tumor surgery, vascular and endovascular neurosurgery, neuroendoscopy, functional neurosurgery, spine surgery, peripheral nerve surgery, radiosurgery and radiotherapy. In addition, it considers related medicolegal, ethical and philosophical aspects.
Including material that represents the combined proceedings of the First International Conference on Complications in Neurosurgery (March 3-5, 2017; Mumbai, India) and the dedicated symposium “Complications in Neurosurgery” during the XVI Congress of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (August 20-25, 2017; Istanbul, Turkey), the articles in this volume were written by recognized experts in the field and based both on their personal experience and the latest scientific evidence. It offers a valuable reference guide, providing detailed recommendations on the prevention and management of complications in neurosurgery.
