This work deals with the subject of competition law in the maritime sector, its evolution over the last two centuries in the European Community, the importance of competition regulation, the path travelled until the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), its historical evolution and normative structure, at the level of Community law in the maritime sector. Another subject will be liner conferences, their historical evolution and the way they were regulated in the European Union up until the UNCTAD Code of Conduct on Liner Conferences. Finally, some aspects of the regulation of competition law in the maritime sector at national level will be addressed, i.e. in my country, Cape Verde, where we will focus on competition law in the Constitution of the Republic of Cape Verde, the role of the state in regulating competition, the abolition of the Maritime and Port Agency with the creation of the Maritime and Port Institute and finally the provisions applicable to companies included in Decree-Law 53/2003 of 24 November.

David Maurício Rocha Cardoso was born in the Republic of Cape Verde, Praia. He has a degree in Law, a Master's in Maritime Law and International Trade, a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal and Administrative Sciences, and is currently working as a lawyer at the Ministry of Tourism and Transport of Cape Verde.
