We Germans have a different way of using the word, we often say "du", by which we mean ourselves, as if one were speaking to oneself alone to a second person, this is perhaps due to the fact that Germans usually do not understand anything about sticking together through thick and thin , because they possess too little humor and self-love so that we always have to explain ourselves when we are happy, but always live alone as if the other "you" were a part of "you" of everything. It is the desperate last attempt to get something positive out of his humor... while only the trees stand silently around.
