Robert Olmstead wurde 1954 geboren und wuchs auf einer Farm in New Hampshire auf. Er unterrichtet Creative Writing an einem amerikanischen College, hat aber auch als Tellerwäscher, Teppichleger und Englischlehrer gearbeitet, Vieh gezüchtet und eine Baufirma betrieben.
