Arterial hypertension constitutes one of the greatest scourges suffered by humanity. Aging is associated with an increase in the prevalence of this disease, with the aim of describing the clinical epidemiological behavior of hypertension in older adults in clinic 3 of the Santo Domingo polyclinic in 2018, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 162 patients diagnosed as hypertensive selected according to criteria. The 57.4% of the sample belonged to the female sex, manifesting no significant differences between sexes for the suffering of hypertension, 59.3% were classified with isolated systolic hypertension that predominated, 50 for 30.9% were located between 65 and 69 years, 75.9% presented white skin color, in 88.7% sedentary lifestyle was found, in 86.4% family history of hypertension, 64.8% consumed alcohol and 51.2% smoked. In 86 patients, non-adherence to treatment was the predominant cause of forgetfulness in 56.9%, 40.7% had ischemic heart disease, which was the most frequent complication, and the presence of a family history of hypertension prevailed as a non-modifiable risk factor.
