It is a pleasure to introduce this new book, Clinical and Pathological Aspects of Skin Diseases in Endocrine, Metabolic, Nutritional, and Deposition Disease, edited by two of my friends and respected colleagues, Franco Rongioletti and Bruce R. Smoller. In fact, I was very ent- siastic when I learned that they were preparing this work. Although endocrine, metabolic, w, and deposition diseases are regularly included in general textbooks of dermatology and d- matopathology, one gains the general impression that these topics receive little emphasis and are mainly included for completeness. The prospect of having all of this information in one volume, lovingly described and detailed by experts in the feld, should be of great interest not only to dermatologists, pathologists, and dermatopathologists but also to internists and en- crinologists, who may well gain a different perspective on these disorders. As a derma- pathologist, I am also pleased that this project has been organized and undertaken by two distinguished authorities in cutaneous pathology. This assures a close integration of histo- thology and other laboratory techniques with the clinical aspects of these disorders, which will make it possible - perhaps for the frst time - to view these conditions in a truly comprehensive way. So I invite you, the reader, to open this volume and dig in; be prepared for an eye-catching, intellectually stimulating, and ultimately rewarding experience Charlottesville, VA James W. Patterson v w Foreword II Dermatopathology is a bridge between Dermatology and Pathology.

From the reviews:

"This reader-friendly book nicely correlates clinical skin abnormalities with what is seen histologically. ... The audience is dermatologists and pathologists. The material is presented in an easy to digest format, and residents in training would benefit from the book. ... This book offers a good, basic understanding of clinical and histologic findings, which enables readers to understand the pathology and the skin change signs. This makes it easier to visualize what is visible to the naked eye and understand conceptually what is represented microscopically." (Patricia Wong, Doody's Review Service, August, 2011)

Through a unique presentation of clinical photographs and accompanying histologic photomicrographs, Clinical and Pathological Aspects of Skin Diseases in Endocrine, Metabolic, Nutritional and Deposition Disease provides the practicing surgical pathologist, dermatologist, endocrinologist, internal medicine physician and dermatopathologist with a single volume source that reviews the clinical and pathologic features of metabolic and endocrine disorders that display cutaneous manifestations. Color photographs are presented for each condition followed by a series of phoromicrographs depicting each entity microscopically. The text includes Clinical Features, Pathology, Etiopathogenesis, Differential Diagnosis and Therapy for all entities, described in a clear, concise style. In-depth discussions of the clinical findings, as well as the histologic features of these diseases are included. Additionally, laboratory data used to make and support the diagnoses is discussed for each entity. The first section covers metabolic disorders that have cutaneous manifestations. Diseases organized by the endocrine organ primarily responsible for the systemic condition are covered. For each entity, an atlas of clinical manifestations is presented that will serve as a “bed-side” clinical reference, followed by a series of photomicrographs depicting the histologic changes. This unique format of presentation is followed throughout the volume in the second through fourth sections addressing Metabolic Diseases, Nutritional Disorders that affect the skin and finally Cutaneous Deposition Disorders. Clinical and Pathological Aspects of Skin Diseases in Endocrine, Metabolic, Nutritional and Deposition Disease is a unique reference for the practicing dermatopathologist, general pathologist reviewing skin biopsies, general dermatologists, internists and endocrinologists.
