City of Song is an important addition to the growing bookshelf on Israel/Palestine and its musics. Through his engaging dialogue with multiple disciplines, Figueroa exposes Jerusalem and its representation in Hebrew song as a treasure trove of contested meanings, historical narratives, and political imaginations.
Michael A. Figueroa is Associate Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on music, politics, and religion in the Middle East, with concentrations in the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, Jerusalem studies, and Middle Eastern diasporas in North America.
