One of the most important reasons for carrying out an empirical research (that is based on experiment rather than ideas or theories) is to build a large body of knowledge. This research is an attempt at examining the extent to which crop production output can be attributed to characteristics of the soils of the area. This will hopefully provide useful information presented in a way that will be easily understood by farmers, policy makers and other decision makers. This will also enable farmers make useful decisions in growing their crops and proffer management practices for use on their farms. To policy makers it will enable them formulate useful policies on how to increase yield and accomplish sustainable food production in spite of the increasing population. More so, this will serve as a base for further research on the crop production potentials in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
