The present work provides a catalogue of asiloid flies (superfamily: Asiloidea) in Egypt, which comprise more than a quarter of the total number of Egyptian fly species. Only six asiloid families are represented in Egypt and treated in the catalogue, namely: Asilidae, Bombyliidae, Mydidae, Mythicomyiidae, Scenopinidae, Therevidae. Data for the catalogue was gathered from specimens preserved in the Egyptian insect collections, in addition to specimens have been collected from different Egyptian localities, from 1991 to 2014, by the author. A great deal of information are also taken from literature and website databases.

Dr. Magdi El-Hawagry has obtained his PhD Degree in bee flies taxonomy in 1999. Since then he has taught insect taxonomy and biodiversity in Cairo University. He has worked in different projects in the field of insect biodiversity in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He is the author of many articles published in international journals.
